Numark Mixtrack Pro – click for a looksy

Welcome to this week’s episode of
    What’s Jay into Now?

I’ve suddenly got the bug to start mixing again! Yup, about 4 years since I even touched a mixer & pair of decks, but Digital DJ’ing is actually pretty mature and usable now, where it used to be AWFUL. Traktor 2.5 on our Macbook Pro is fun to use, reliable, actually matches BPM’s on dubstep & DnB tracks, and is almost usable with mouse/keyboards!

Numark Omni - click for a gander
Numark Omni – click for a gander

However, of course I’m looking at external DJ style midi controllers, as Mouse n Keys really aren’t hands-on.
Numark Omni and Mixtrack Pro are my front runners, selling around £40-100 on ebay. The Omni looks sexy & well built, but is a tad old & sluggish apparently. The Mixtrack Pro is up-to-date, well rated & sounds pretty solid, it’s also more expensive of these 2.

Either way, won’t be getting anything for a while, but watch this space 😀

However, in a mild attempt to cover my cravings I’ve been trying practically every Android DJ app on my SGS3, but nothing really works. Although DJ Studio 4 is best of the bunch; Can load 2 MP3’s, setup playlists, adjust pitch and play simultaneously, it suffers from chronic lag and can only sync to the nearest whole BPM, not “142.5” or whatever, so nothing is ever in time for long 🙁

All in all not very successful, and that’s the best of all I’ve tried – the others really were dire !!

Checking out the updated WordPress plugging for Android. Seems awesome so far :-D

Just updated my Android WordPress app, and also hopped my WordPress site up to the latest Beta, which is nice.

    Now installed the Jetpack plug-in pack which should allow easy embed of video by just a pasting youtube URL, so here goes;

YAY! That works a treat, me likey lots 😀

  • CyanogenMOD on Android ROCKS !!!

Cyanogen 7 on my HTC Desire
Cyanogen 7 on my HTC Desire

It’s about a month since I rooted my Desire, installing a new rom instead of the stock HTC android OS. Cyanogen went on without any problems and just works. No dramas, looks & feels cool, totally tweakable & great for a serial fettler like me.

I absolutely LOVE my phone again!

Also been playing loads of “DragRacing” game (ad supported) lately, got me hooked far more than I ever thought it would.
Current lick is a heavily tweaked & tuned Aston Martin One, with 1288bhp and 280HP Nitrous boost, running <>9 sec 1/4 miles and 13.4s 1/2 miles @ 227mph !! 😆

Yes I know it’s not real, but it’s certainly fun & interesting. Busy earning enough to buy the next level up, either Veyron SS or SSC1, both (in standard trim) are similar power to my AM One, but lighter, and I’m sure with some upgrades they’ll really fly!

    All good fun 😀

  • Want to ‘root’ my phone

Posted on August 12, 2011 10:29 am by dubster

Been considering it a while, and figure it’s about time. My HTC desire’s great, but has so much pre-installed crap that I neither use nor want, all wasting space & battery life for no purpose.
Seems that putting a non-standard version of Android on there (ie not Vodaphone/O2/etc) allows lots of customising and you can add only the programs you want to use. All this can make the phone quicker, battery last longer, and entire thing feel less crowded. Would also let me get some of the cool bits from the current Gingerbread OS, which is nice.

A couple of guys at work have recently done their HTC’s, so will have a gas & see if it’s worth the time n effort.

Actually, think I’ll take a walk and do that now 🙂

  • HTC pulls a 180, now says Gingerbread is coming to Desire — Engadget

HTC pulls a 180, now says Gingerbread is coming to Desire — Engadget.

    Android-Gingerbread
    Gingerbread Launch

So, here’s the tally: as of June 14th, there’s just “not enough memory” in the Desire for Gingerbread to run properly. As of the 15th, however, there is. We won’t pretend to understand what changed so drastically in the past 24 hours, but what is clear is that the aforesaid handset maker is listening to its most demanding of users.

Update: Turns out that HTC’s engineers will “cut select apps” to enable the Gingerbread update.

ps: my first post using the “Press This” widget! What a fantastic piece of kit 🙂

  • HTC Desire won’t get OS update :(

Thanks to the Android News RSS feed I’ve added, just found out that my HTC Desire (non HD) won’t be getting the Gingerbread update we’ve all been waiting for *sobs*

Apparently not down to lack of power, but lack of onboard memory! Figures as that’s always been a low point of the Desire imho. Damn thing was always slowing up cos ram got low, until I discovered Advanced Task Killer any way. A ‘factory reset’ helped enormously once it was really crappy.

Still gutted I won’t get the update though, stuck with this phone for another year yet, unless a HD appears locally at a fair price anyway.
