  • Checking out the updated WordPress plugging for Android. Seems awesome so far :-D

Just updated my Android WordPress app, and also hopped my WordPress site up to the latest Beta, which is nice.

    Now installed the Jetpack plug-in pack which should allow easy embed of video by just a pasting youtube URL, so here goes;

YAY! That works a treat, me likey lots 😀

The video is myself & WolfWaz (uDare.net) checking out the Red & Black trails at Bedgebury last summer.

  • Great session at Bedgebury last night…

Bedgers was a goodun last evening, trails were decent, few puddles but nothing big, and I’m glad to report they’ve finally opened the “swoopy” section that’s been closed all year!

I wore the head cam throughout, often facing backwards with Wayne hacking thru the trails n trees behind, and we got some reasonable footage this time 🙂
No major mechanicals, though Wayne’s rear had a slow puncture which needed a few top-ups, and he suffered cronic chain-suck at one point, which took some dislodging!

Was passed by Steve & Malcolm from Wadhurst Vauxhall, on a mission by the looks of em, and had a good gas with 2 fellas towards the end, one on a 1999 Klien Attitude, just like Suzz’s but bigger, and with the original suspension forks! *shock horror*

All in all a great session though, good to get some high speed footage on some trails, just wish the light was a bit better throughout.

Will post a clips video soon.

  • Biking with uDare this arvo

    Bedgebury & Bluebells
    Bedgebury & Bluebells, Spring 2011

Meeting Wayne after work for a mad bike session near home.

The question is, do we hit Bedgebury as usual or some local trails?
Bedge is always worth a punt, and is a great place to hack about, but trails maybe more interesting, if more disjointed.

I’ve packed the head cam for the ride & hope to get some cool footage tonight.

  • Bedgebury with the lads…

Had a good blast around Bedgebury last night, trails were good n tacky, hardly any puddles, and plenty of speedy bits 🙂

With Steve, Malcolm, Gary n Paul from the village, they ride it most weeks.

My RockShox Reba SL forks are in dire need of a service though, they’ve lost oil from one leg & aren’t damping at the moment. Big strip down, new seals & oil needed.

  • 3 Peaks, the aftermath …

    Wowsers, that was some challenge!!

We drove 1440 miles in 3 days; the guys walking did over 60,000 steps in the 32 hours it took to complete Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Mount Snowdon; I had zero sleep between 4am Saturday & 1am Monday. Not the best possible state to be in when driving a long wheelbase minibus full of 8 people & loads of kit, but it worked & we all survived intact & undamaged 🙂

Hard as the driving was I think myself & Ray had the better deal to be honest; Saturday night was pure mental, driving away from Wasdale Head (Scafell) around 2am in thick fog & the black of night, and sunday night’s 7 hour slog from Snowdon to home was totally messed up for us both, but the guys walking had a hell of a time…

Negotiating Scafell Pike in dark & fog was incredibly dangerous, slippery & sketchy, only 2 of our 6 guys made the summit, taking 6 hours in total. It still took the other guys 4 hours to go half way up & back, 45 min’s of that was just finding our car park in the fog 😥

I took a 20 minute hike up the path around 1am to see if I could guide anyone down (and to give my Hope Vision 2 bike light a test above the cloud line :)), and that was manic enough, a soaking wet, off camber, rock strewn grassy hill side.

We tested lots of motorway services, ate more MacD’s in a 3 days than I’d normally eat in 5 years, and we all kept in good spirits throughout.

Was a big achievement for everyone in the team, whether they made all 3 summits, or simply drove to them.

  • 3 Peaks – more details on tap…

Got more of an idea about next weekend’s adventure, thought I’d share it…

Myself and ‘Ray’ will do all the driving, covering about 1500 miles in the mini bus, with a team of 6 guys doing all the walking/climbing.

We leave Rochester early on Friday morning, heading for a YHA near the Nevis range, hope to go for a big Pasta fuel up before bed 🙂

We’ll get up at dawn’s crack Saturday for the guys to climb Ben Nevis at 6am, once they’re off I’ll head out on the bike to do Fort William’s XC loops for a few hours, which should be great. I’ve never ridden in Scotland, so that’s a tick in the box.

They should return about 11am when we’ll drive to Cumbria as fast as the minibus let’s us, with luck they’ll start Scafell Pike about 3-4pm. If I’m up to it, I’ll go for another ride, as it’ll be 4-5 hours before they’re back again.

Hopefull they’ll have no issues & we should leave for Snowdonia about 8-9pm Saturday, so they’ll start up Snowdon around 2am for another 4-5 hour slog finishing about 6am the following day. We’ll try n sleep while they climb Snowdon, as it’ll be a quick blast home as soon as they get back.

Might book the Monday off actually 🙂

  • 3 Peaks Challenge, from a different angle…

Logo for BAE Systems 3 Peaks Challenge
    BAE Systems 3 Peaks Challenge

I’ve been roped into driving a team to Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon next weekend,
for their “3 peaks in 24 hours” challenge 🙂

I’m considering taking the bike, as I’ll have about 5 hours to kill at each venue. However I will need to sleep while they’re clambering about, and I can’t risk damaging myself as I gotta drive them around & home.

The team will walk about 25 miles in 24 hours, but there’s a 10,000 vertical feet to climb & descend. This ain’t no walk in the park son!

  • Drinking with the yanks

Had a couple of ex team mates from Johnson City at work this week, so went out for a beer with em after work yesterday. Maidstone seemed like an obvious choice, but actually there’s no decent pubs open during the day! Ended up in bloody Wetherspoons, which is nice enough & good range of beers, etc, But they’re so damn prolific these days, Ted’s been in 5 different wetherspoons all over the UK since landing a week ago 🙁

However, was great to have a drink n catch up with the guys, chat about cars, life, work, and anything else that came to mind. Walked them back to Zizzi’s before heading to meet Cheryl in Tunbridge Wells. Ended up going for an indian in The Spice restaurant, which was bloomin lovely again. Def our fave indian in TW, though Masala in the Pantiles looks & feels nicer, the food’s not quite as good as The Spice.

  • Mum’s gone to Yorkshire

Cheryl’s Mum heads home today, after a week in sunny Sussex. Been a great visit as usual, some good old country walks and a lotta good eating too 🙂

Above are a lovely Donkey & Horse we met on our travels, very friendly, wandered across the field to say halloo & get a nose rub. Bless em, we gave em a bit of grass for their efforts.
